2017 Nationwide Museum and Cultural Institution Compensation Survey

This survey is conducted every other year and is designed to capture compensation trends for museums and cultural institutions across the country. It is sponsored by the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The 2017 survey collected compensation data for 24 executive and senior management positions and 122 benchmark positions, focusing in particular on positions unique to the museum and cultural institution sector (e.g., job ladders for conservation scientists, conservators, curators, design/exhibition positions, development, librarians, and visitor services). Every four years, the survey also includes a section on staff benefits (this portion was last conducted in 2015).
