This survey is conducted every other year and is designed to capture compensation trends for museums and cultural institutions across the country. It is sponsored by the The American Museum of Natural History, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The J. Paul Getty Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
The survey reports base salary, bonus, and total cash at various percentiles for ~30 executive and senior management positions and 170 benchmark positions, focusing in particular on positions unique to the museum and cultural institution sector (e.g., job ladders for conservation scientists, conservators, curators, design/exhibition positions, development, librarians, and visitor services). In addition, we report total remuneration (total cash plus all non-cash compensation) for the Top Executive position, with a breakout of health and welfare benefits, qualified retirement, deferred compensation, and perquisites costs. We also report on organization-wide insurance benefits, retirement plan, and perquisites structures and costs. Compensation data is reported in aggregate for all participants, as well by cuts by organization size and location (with special cuts for NYC, Chicago, and California participants).
